Energy and more over the market for energy is one of the top subjects of the world‘s most import industrial trade fair. The actual situation looking at Japan and several African countries has put an additional spotlight on this topic. It reminds us that security and availability of energy is not a course. Energy is something that we have to handle, to manage and to control, if we want to benefit from it. The exposition in Hannover this year was an outstanding platform for micro and macro solutions offered by the world‘s leading concerns and companies, research labs as well as small business units.
The aim to produce clean energy in an efficient way is clearly based on a broad consensus. Also the EU targets for 2020 concerning sustainable energy supply are agreed on a wide field. Even some more ambitious aims were formulated and the will to realize these goals is evident.
The days in Hannover made it very clear - fast realization of „going clean & green“ needs a lot of engagement of all parties. Producers, distributers and consumers have to work hand in hand. Energy concerns and other electricity providers, network operators, the whole energy exchange market, material suppliers as well as research instituions and government are challenged to cooperate, to exchange and to learn from each other.
The motivation seems to be high, caused by the impression that the players in the energy market try to find and extend their own position by now, looking out for financial success. Alliances, cooperations and mergers are made driven by splitting the profit. The atmosphere is busy and optimistic. Nevertheless companies are not willing to take big risks. The financial crisis in the past and still on going bank crashes as well as financial bailouts within the EU seem to have a break down effect.
Openess and trust, straightness and efficinecy are values that have to be build up and take care off. The financial world, the business and also the energy market have no credits concerning these values that people look for - no matter if they are consumers or business partners. These gaps need to be closed in the near future to profit from the chances and benefit from the opportunities that are lying in the energy market and specially in sustainable energy.
Hannover Messe shows that people of tomorrow will be smart consumers of energy. They will have smart grids or grid „buttlers“ in their homes to use energy the most efficient way. They will be „prosumers“, which means they produce, deliver and consume energy all in one. Intelligent communication systems will devide and provide energy from smalest units to larger ones. The whole structure of the energy chain will be turned. Visions of the future show a cellular structure within a flexible and intelligent system that is able to manage fluctuations in energy supply as well as in energy consumption.
Germany presented several field trials with different szenarios such as urban and rural testing grounds to develop functional models. Reality check for ideas, methods, structures and products.
Decentralization of power - literally and pictorially spoken - is needed to come to ecological and economical solutions. It‘s about new ways of thinking, combining and connecting.
The Hannover Messe and the array of exhibits partly show impressing ways of first steps in this direction. Next steps have to be made... What we need is efficient energy engineering on our way into a safe, sound and worth living future for people - all over the world.
The last days and weeks reminds us strongly that we are living in one world. It‘s plain to see that we have to change for keeping our quality in life and lifestyle.... and that it‘s possible.
